Giorgio Caporaso graduated in Architecture, with area of specialization in Industrial Design and Furnishing at the Polytechnic of Milan.
In 1997 he opened his own professional studio which operates in
the field of architectural planning and design. Fascinated by the
idea of design at all scales, he captures the idea of a professionalism
applied to the project in all its dimensions, ranging from architectonic
volumes, thoroughly researched in detail, in keeping with the criteria
of excellence in Italian design criteria, to interior environments
and object design, and embracing graphic design and visual communication.
His interest is also devoted to the user interface applied to the
new media and the new intelligence that has become widespread in
everyday objects.
He works for companies and private individuals. At the same time
he collaborates as a designer with other studios.
In 1999 he established
the design company Caporaso & Associati
srl to work alongside the architecture studio as far as Product,
Furniture and Interior Design, Exhibition, Corporate Identity, Visual
Design, Web Design and packaging concern.
His architectural expertise was called upon for the design of interesting
projects. He deals with the themes of sustainable architecture, the
use of renewable energy sources and energy saving technologies, being
environmentally conscious and developing urban parkland. His designs
include experimentation with green coverings and roof gardens.
Since 2007 he has been trying out a line of furnishings responding to sustainable design criteria, yet while developing the aesthetic research and original matching of materials with easy and interchangeable solutions, equally for the domestic home setting, the workplace and places of leisure and recreation. Products centre on modularity, transformability and flexibility, in order to meet the ongoing changes of modern life, yet through a conscientious choice of form, function and materials designed to optimise their usage and wear.
His designs have been published in various specialist journals catering for the architecture and design sector and some of his works have been displayed in important fairs, shows and sectorial exhibitions. Several of his projects are currently in the patenting phase.
He received the Selection of Honour
at the XVIII ‘Compasso
d’Oro’ (Golden Compass) and the Mention of Honour at
the XVI biennial BIO16 Ljubljana.
His design MORE was awarded first prize in the competition 100% Design
Futures 2008 promoted by BEDG “Tomorrow’s design Philosophy:
Match-Making Matching tradition with change, cultural heritage with
global interface” (London, 2008).
